THE IRON AGE
Recuperare metallo dagli oggetti, qualunque oggetto, è un’attività che può investire molti piani di lettura. Il confronto con la materia, prima selezionata e poi spolpata da ogni orpello funzionale. La memoria di pulsioni e gesti arcaici, che rimandano al topos della notte dei tempi. Il pensiero della sostenibilità, urgenza globale del mondo contemporaneo. E molti altri.
The Iron Age è un viaggio tra lamiere e carcasse d’auto, piramidi di lattine e rottami di elettrodomestici, macchine infernali, rumore e caos, lampi di luce e pozze di buio. L’esplorazione di un mondo sconosciuto perché perlopiù rimosso. Che invece, come un’astronave in pezzi dopo una catastrofica collisione, consegna alla notte bagliori di SOS.

Recovering metal from objects—any object—is an activity that operates on many levels. There is the engagement with the material itself, first selected and then stripped of all functional trappings. There is the memory of primal urges and gestures, harking back to the dawn of time. There is the concept of sustainability—a pressing global issue in the modern world. And many others besides.
"The Iron Age" is a journey through sheet metal and car wrecks, pyramids of cans and discarded appliances, infernal machines, noise and chaos, flashes of light and pools of darkness. It is an exploration of a world that remains unknown because it has largely been banished from our consciousness—yet one that, like a spaceship shattered in a catastrophic collision, sends out SOS flares into the night.
We are both the senders and the recipients.
